What is the Sirtfood Diet?
The nutritionists Glen Matten and Aidan Goggins are the brains behind this eating plan. They wrote a book on how the diet exactly works and the kind of foods that can be consumed while following it. The diet works upon the concept that by consuming a few types of foods, you can activate some types of proteins in your body – known as ‘sirtuins’. Sirtuins, also referred to as ‘skinny genes’ in colloquial parlance, have a lot of functions in the body – including increasing of lifespan, managing inflammation, regulating metabolism and more. These are a cluster of 7 proteins which are present inside the body.
This diet aims to have people eat those types of eatables that have plenty of sirtuin proteins and also monitor the intake of calories, so as to enjoy the same effects as fasting and exercises.
How Does the Sirtfood Diet Work?
This diet has two phases.
The Phase one lasts for a week. During the first week, the first 3 days have dieters restrict their calorie intake to 1,000 every day. It includes one meal and 3 green juices that are approved by the sirtfood meal plan. Once the 3rd day is over, dieters can have 1,500 calories every day as two meals and two green juices.
In the first phase, you do not get the permission to consume any alcohol. However, you are allowed to have green tea, coffee, tea and water freely.

In the sirtfood diet, the 2nd phase lasts only for a 14-day period. The daily plan includes 1-2 bite snacks, a single sirtfood green juice and 3 meals that are rich in sirtfoods. Phase 2 is not aimed at restricting the intake of calories.
When you are in this phase, you can get the permission to consume red wine, although in moderate amounts. It is suggested that you have 2 to 3 glasses of beverage every week. You can also have green tea, coffee, tea and water.
Which Foods are approved in the Sirtfood Diet?
The following eatables are approved in the list of sirtfoods in this diet:
- Red wine
- Red onion
- Red chicory
- Medjool dates
- Green tea
- Extra virgin olive oil
- Chili pepper
Chocolate and Red Wine are approved in the list. The above eatables are among the main sirtfoods, although quite a few other foods are allowed in this diet – such as popcorn, raspberries, green beans and asparagus.
Do Sirtfoods Actually Work?
Yes, these are actually the new superfoods. The foods are able to activate SIRT1, the group of genes that can burn up fat, and can boost health. These are primarily made up of foods that are plant-based.
